How To Use Our Karoo Sjiek “Its Not Paper” Decoupage Prints

  1. Prepare the Surface:
Start by prepping your item with a light-coloured paint, such as white or off-white. Be sure to follow the paint manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure proper adhesion. Allow the surface to dry completely before beginning the decoupage process.
  2. Smooth the Print:
Carefully remove the decoupage print from its plastic packaging. Using a cool iron (without steam), gently iron the back of the print to remove any folds.
  3. Position the Print:
Place the print on your item, ensuring it's centred and aligned. If the print is smaller than the surface you're decoupaging, trim any excess white borders.
  4. Apply the Sealer:
Apply a base coat of high-quality polyurethane water-based sealer or modge to the surface. While the sealer is still wet, gently place the print in position. Once placed, smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles by rubbing from the centre outward with your hands or using a roller.
  5. Seal and Finish:
Once the first layer of sealer is dry, apply a second coat over the print. For added protection and a smooth finish, apply a final (third) coat. If needed, lightly sand the surface with 400-grit sandpaper for a refined texture.
  6. Outdoor Protection:
If the item will be used outdoors, use a sealer with UV protection to ensure the print lasts longer under sun exposure.
  7. Care Instructions:
Once dry, your item can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
